Working Conditions in Dance as part of The Bridge

The Bridge is a professional dance project that aims to ease the transition from training to the professional world for young dancers and to provide them with their first professional experiences.
The transition from training to professional dance is a crucial and often challenging phase for young dancers. At the same time, established artists and dance professionals also face questions regarding fair pay, social security, working hours, work-life balance and long-term career prospects.
What are the working conditions for dancers like today?
What does it take to make a successful start to a career?
And how can fair and sustainable working conditions be created within the dance scene?
As part of this regular get-together, we would like to exchange experiences, perspectives and ideas relating to a career in dance. In particular, we aim to address the challenges and needs of young dancers.
The get-together is aimed at dancers, choreographers, dance professionals, students, institutions and anyone else interested. Following a brief introductory talk, the focus will be on a joint discussion in a relaxed atmosphere.
We look forward to hearing different perspectives, having open discussions and enjoying an evening of exchange and networking.

We are thrilled to announce a brand-new collaboration between Ballett Basel and Tanzbüro Basel for the 2026/2027 season!
Theater Basel is co-hosting the official Profitraining program, bridging the gap between institutional ballet and our amazing local independent dancers.
The classes will be led directly by dancers from the Ballett Basel ensemble!
What you need to know:
The Class: Professional ballet training led by dancers from the Ballett Basel ensemble. When: Every Saturday from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM
Where: Theater Basel, Rehearsal Stage IV (Probe-Studio IV). Access via the stage entrance. Spots: Limited to 20 participants per session.
Please arrive already dressed in your training gear, as studio access relies on nearby restrooms for changing.
